How it works

From the call to a door that locks again

  1. 1

Call and describe what is locked

Say whether it is a door, a car or a safe, and where in Santa Rosa or the county you are. The price is named and sealed on that call.

  2. 2

Get the name and window by text

A text arrives with the technician's name and arrival window, so you know who is coming and when to look out.

  3. 3

Proof of ownership, then the work

The technician checks the address or the vehicle is yours, then picks, decodes or rekeys. No drill without your yes.

  4. 4

Card on site, receipt within the hour

The card charge matches the call, and the itemized receipt lands in your email before you have put the kettle on.

House lockout
Locked out of my apartment above one of the antique shops at 11pm after dinner on Fourth Street. Quoted $139 on the call, $109 for the lockout plus the $30 evening add, and that was the charge. The text with the technician's name came a minute later, the van was there in about fifteen, and the old door opened without a scratch.

Lock rekey
Own a duplex off Sebastopol Rd and the tenants on one side moved out without returning keys. Four cylinders rekeyed at $26 each, all on one key, plus the $89 call, $193 total. Done in half an hour on a Tuesday morning. I had three new keys in my hand and the receipt in my email before the van turned the corner.

Lock replacement
My husband's hands make round knobs hard. We wanted lever handles front and back and a deadbolt he can turn. Quoted $215 for the pair with the deadbolt. The van took about thirty-five minutes, a bit past the thirty I was told, which is the only reason for four stars. Price held, the levers work, and the tech reset the strike so the door no longer needs a shove.

Smart lock
Our rebuilt house still had the builder's locks and we had never changed them. Had a keypad deadbolt put on the front and the garage entry door rekeyed to match. $189 for the smart lock plus $27 for the cylinder, exactly what I approved on the call. Saturday at noon, under an hour, codes set for the kids and the app working before he packed up.

Storefront locks
The deadlatch on our tasting-room door off the Plaza stopped catching the morning of a release party. Called at 8am, van up from Santa Rosa by 8:40, latch and cylinder swapped for the $265 quoted. Paid by card and had the receipt before the first pour. Could not have gone better on a day like that.

Car lockout
Locked the keys in the Subaru at the Spring Lake lot with the dog inside on a warm afternoon. Quoted $89 on the call. The text with the name and window came right away and the van was there in about twenty minutes. Door open in two, dog fine, paid on the card reader standing in the parking lot.

Before you call anyone

How to spot a bait quote before the van is on your street

Santa Rosa gets calls routed through out-of-area lead centers that advertise $15 and invoice $350. Five questions that sort them out in about a minute.

Read the guides
  1. 1Ask for the complete number with the service call and any evening or overnight add already in it. If the answer starts with a low figure and trails off into and up, hang up.
  2. 2Ask which company name will be on the van and on the receipt. A locksmith who cannot say is a middleman selling your call to whoever is nearest.
  3. 3Ask what happens if the lock will not pick. The right answer is a fixed replacement price you approve first, not a decision the technician makes with the drill already out.
  4. 4Ask for the technician's name by text before arrival. If the company will not send it, there is nobody to hold responsible for what happens at your door.
  5. 5Pay by card and insist on an itemized receipt. A cash-only total or a number written on a pad leaves you no record of what you agreed to.

FAQ

What Santa Rosa callers ask first

How long does the van take to reach my part of Santa Rosa?+

The citywide average is about 22 minutes. Railroad Square usually sees the van in 14, Roseland in 16, Coffey Park and Montgomery Village in 18, Rincon Valley and Bennett Valley in 22, Fountaingrove in 24 and Oakmont closer to 30 because of the distance out Hwy 12. Harvest traffic on 101 or a slow stretch of Farmers Lane can add a few minutes, and the window you get by text already accounts for it.

What does the Corked-Price Guarantee actually cover?+

Four things. The price is named and sealed on the call, with the $89 service call and any evening or overnight add already inside it. You get the technician's name and arrival window by text. Locks are opened without damage first, and drilling happens only with your yes and at the quoted price. You pay by card on site and the itemized receipt is emailed within the hour. If you ask for more work at the door, like a rekey after a lockout, it is approved as a separate line before it starts.

Will my lock be drilled?+

Almost never. Residential deadbolts, knob locks, storefront cylinders and most safes open with picks, decoders or bypass tools, and the hardware keeps working afterward. Drilling is reserved for high-security cylinders or locks already broken inside, and even then the technician explains the option and the replacement cost before touching it. Nothing is drilled without your yes.

What proof of ownership do I need to show?+

For a house or apartment, an ID with the address, or a lease, a piece of mail or a utility account on your phone if the ID shows an old address. For a car, ID plus the registration or an insurance card. For a business, ID plus a lease, a business license or a call from the owner. Vacation-rental hosts can authorize by text from the number on the listing. Without proof, the door stays shut.

Is there a surcharge for evenings, nights or weekends?+

Weekend and holiday daytime jobs cost the same as a weekday. Arrivals between 8pm and midnight add $30, and arrivals between midnight and 7am add $60. Both are folded into the total on the call, so a $99 daytime house lockout is $129 in the evening and $159 overnight, and that is the last time the number changes.

Can you rekey a vacation rental or guest cottage between guests?+

Yes, and for a place that turns over every weekend a keypad lock with rotating codes usually pays for itself in a season. A rekey is $19 to $34 per cylinder and takes about ten minutes per door. A smart lock install runs $150 to $395, with a code for the cleaner and a code per guest set before the technician leaves. Either way you get an itemized receipt your host platform will accept.

Our house was rebuilt after the 2017 fire. Do the builder's locks need anything?+

Usually one thing: a rekey. New construction in Coffey Park and Fountaingrove often went through framing, drywall and finish crews on a construction key, and some of those locks were never reset to a homeowner key. Rekeying every exterior cylinder to one new key is $19 to $34 per cylinder and takes about an hour for a typical house. If the builder installed a smart lock, the old admin codes get cleared on the same visit.

Do you cover Windsor, Rohnert Park, Sebastopol and Healdsburg?+

Yes, at the same prices as Santa Rosa. Rohnert Park averages about 22 minutes, Windsor 24, Sebastopol 26 and Healdsburg 32. Petaluma is reachable in around 34. For any of those addresses the window given by text is the number to plan around rather than the Santa Rosa average, especially on a Friday afternoon when 101 is full.
